Orientation Days

Orientation is available Monday through Friday starting at 9:30 AM.

It is recommended that you go to an orientation the next business day you arrive to Auckland, New Zealand.

Don’t worry! If you do not have your Working Holiday Visa already, as soon as you book your program we will send you step-by-step instructions on “how to apply”.

To be eligible for the program:

• You must be a Canadian citizen and resident with a valid CANADIAN PASSPORT to be eligible for this program
• You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 (and must not turn 36 before work permit is issued)
• You must have a clear Police Record
• Must have intermediate level of English
• You will need a Working Holiday Visa –cost approx CAD $108 / NZD $140 (we will give you instructions of how to apply if you do not have one already)
• You must have Medical Insurance for the entire duration that you are in New Zealand – it is mandatory (if you would like to purchase through us - we offer a great insurance policy at a low premium)

To be eligible for the working holiday visa:

• You must be able to prove with a bank statement that you have access to approx. CAD $3,220 / NZD $4,200 in available funds so that you can “make-do” while you are travelling and working
• Need to prove that you have enough money for a return ticket home
• Have never previously entered New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa
• Meet health and character requirements
• Must not have any dependent children

Note: Through the Working Holiday Visa, you are allowed to stay in New Zealand for 12 months and can work for any employer for up to 1 year. Please note that it is unlikely you will qualify for a Working Holiday Visa if you have dependent children accompanying you or if you have been convicted of a criminal offence.

Airport Transfer to hostel (Ultimate Package Only)

You will receive a Shuttle bus transport voucher. The shuttle bus departs every 15 minutes and will drop you at the door of your Hostel.

2 nights accommodation including breakfasts at a 4.5 to 5 star hostel (Ultimate Package Only)

You will be booked into a 4.5 to 5-stars hostel right in the centre of Auckland. All bookings include daily breakfast. Hostels are centrally located and you can extend your stay if you wish at an additional charge. You will be in a multi-shared rooms (of 4-6 people) with the following facilities depending on the hostel:

• TV
• Laundry
• Swimming Pool
• BBQ Area

Don’t know what to do after the 2 nights of hostel? That’s what friendly on-site staff members are for! Ask for advice on where to live based on your travel plans and types of accommodation to rent. Typically, most participants rent apartments or join in on shared housing to minimize living costs.

Hot Tip: Get a roommate – you will cut your rent by at least half, not to mention your internet, cable and utilities. This is why our program is awesome... you will meet new people during your orientation who will be travelling your way and – voila – instant roommate!

Detailed welcome presentation

A welcome presentation is conducted Monday through Friday at 9:30 AM. It is recommended that you go to the office for the welcome presentation the next business day after your arrival. The presentation will include fun facts, culture, weather, places to see, the Kiwi lifestyle, etc. At the end of the Presentation, you will receive a package with a booklet explaining all the relevant points in details; your Tax File Number Registration, Mobile SIM card, map, accommodation guide, and much more.

12 months of job assistance

Job Assistance will be guaranteed for the entire duration of the package (12 months). You must have intermediate English.

To get a job quickly, you should bring the following with you to New Zealand:

• Resume/CV
• Work References and Certificates
• Food Safe/Serving in Right/First Aid Certificates, if any

There will be a Job Presentation held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:00 PM. Staff will use this time to help you prepare for your job search.

The presentation will include the following topics:

• Resume/CV Creation
• How to present yourself
• Common interview questions and best answers
• Punctuality
• Work culture

Opening a bank account

Staff will setup a bank account for you which will be ready just before you arrive.

Inland Revenue Department Number (IRD) registration

You will be registered for a IRD Number with the assistance of a staff member. This is the New Zealand version of our Social Insurance Number. After filing, you will obtain your IRD within 7 – 28 days after registering and a staff member will email this number to you.

New Zealand mobile SIM card

You will receive a mobile SIM card. The SIM card will be activated on arrival and ready to use.

International pre-paid phone card (NZD $20 credit)

12 months access to current jobs database, list of hot employers, accommodation websites, etc.

You will be given a membership that gives access to an Online Members Area which includes:

• Current Jobs available (over 8700 jobs in 2010)
• List of over 100 companies which regularly employ working holiday makers
• Tips of how to create a successful CV and interview techniques
• List of major Employment and Accommodation Websites
• Recreation links such as cinemas, shopping, banks, etc.

Use of office facilities for work purposes

You can use the office in Auckland, New Zealand for work purposes or to meet new friends.

Unlimited Internet access

There are computers and internet access at the Auckland office and you are given unlimited use from Monday to Friday from 9:30am – 5:30pm.

Mail holding and forwarding

You can register the office as your New Zealand address and your mail will be received for you during your travels around the country. You can either go to the office to collect your mail or you can request for it to be sent to an address onshore.

Free luggage storage

You are able to store you luggage at the office for 4 weeks free of charge. After that, there will be a small weekly fee per bag.

The Sound is actually a fjord surrounded by high rainforest-covered cliffs. Rainfall is some of the highest in the world and temporary waterfalls cascade up to 328 feet into the water. Watch out for seals, penguins and dolphins, who are regular visitors to the area.

Waitomo Gloworm Caves

World renowned and a magnet for both local and overseas visitors, these caves occupy a high placing in the New Zealand vacation wish-list. The glow worm, Arachnocampa luminosa, is unique to New Zealand. Thousands of these tiny creatures radiate their unmistakable luminescent will guide you through and inform you of their significance.
