    Work & Travel UK Ultimate Package

    We arrange a full-time, live-in job for you BEFORE you leave Canada in the Hospitality or Catering Industry. Places of work: hotels, pubs, restaurants, holiday villages, parks, and theme parks. Types of jobs: food server, hostess, bar tender, cleaner, cook/chef.

    Jobs Available

    If you have culinary education and/or over 6 months of work experience, you can be placed as a COOK or CHEF.

    Location

    The majority of placements are in rural areas of the UK, including Scotland, Wales, Isles of Guernsey, Jersey, and Northern Ireland. You may be far from a city/town and in the middle of the countryside. You can request to be placed in a large city or a busy holiday resort, but your request cannot be guaranteed. You are not able to choose your destination.

    Program Start Date

    Please register 8 weeks in advance of your program start date so that a placement can be arranged for you.

    Orientation

    Your host employer will give you a personal orientation upon arrival.

    Receptionists

    Receptionists are generally the first person that guests see upon arrival or talk to when they call to make a booking. Students training as receptionists have the all-important task of making people feel welcome, providing an efficient service and dealing professionally with inquiries, either face to face or over the phone, fax or email. Duties include welcoming guests on arrival, allocating them a room, taking and passing on messages and helping guests with any special requests. A hotel receptionist needs to be welcoming, friendly, helpful, efficient, professional, well-organized and able to handle several tasks at once.

    Waiting staff

    The position includes serving food and drink to diners. Duties may vary depending on the establishment, but always include taking orders, serving food and drink, cleaning the restaurant and bar area before and after the service. Making customers feel welcome and at ease is an essential part of the job. To do this students should have a welcoming, friendly attitude, a good memory and, most importantly, a high standard of personal hygiene. They also need excellent communication skills and basic mathematical skills for calculating bills where necessary.

    Commis Waiters are in charge of bringing trays of plates from the kitchen to the restaurant, where the waiting staff will serve the customers.

    House-keepers

    The position includes keeping all the rooms clean, tidy and welcoming. Cleaning guests' bathrooms and bedrooms, keeping the rooms equipped with items such as soap and tea and coffee, cleaning and preparing public rooms like the lounge and restaurant, changing bed linen, vacuuming floors, washing glasses and cups, cleaning the public toilets.

    Bar staff

    The positions includes training in the bar or restaurant area, serving customers with alcoholic and soft drinks and cash handling. Bar staff usually serve snacks and may serve hot and cold food to customers. They also need to keep the bar clean and well stocked, wash glasses, empty ashtrays, store empty bottles, clear and clean tables regularly. Students should be able to provide a welcoming, friendly atmosphere, be good communicators, outgoing, smart and tidy.

    Kitchen staff

    Various positions available: chefs, commis chefs, kitchen assistants, kitchen porters. Positions include various tasks from keeping everything clean, making sure the equipment and utensils are always tidy and in their place, helping with basic or elaborate food preparation, washing pots. Also taking food and drinks deliveries, keeping the storerooms well-organized, keeping equipment (fridges, ovens, work surfaces and floors) clean and hygienic, washing up or stacking the dishwasher. Kitchens can be very busy and noisy at times so students you need to be very organized and flexible.

    Laundry assistants

    Laundry assistants train in the in-house laundry. The position involves: receiving articles and checking for damage or stains and labeling them; sorting items by colour, size, fabric type and appropriate cleaning process; checking items against customers' lists; cleaning/washing with water and spotting chemicals to remove stains before processing; finishing by drying, pressing, steam finishing and folding; packing and hanging ready for collection.

    Porters

    Positions involve greeting incoming guests and escorting them to their rooms, receiving and marking baggage by completing and attaching claim checks, transferring luggage to and from rooms, loading areas, vehicles, or transportation terminals, by hand or using baggage carts, delivering messages and room service orders, and run errands for guests, maintain common areas clean, pick up and return items for laundry and valet service. Preparing conference rooms and breakfast rooms.

    General assistants

    The position involves a mixture of all the above. You will be required to train in different departments according to the establishment needs, be flexible and keen to take on new tasks and being trained in new areas.

    Shop Assistants

    Positions available in shops in big hotels, Holiday Parks, Holiday Villages and Theme Parks. The position involves welcoming customers and helping them in choosing items, answering inquiries about prices, keeping the shop area clean and tidy, arranging and organizing shelves and storeroom, checking stock, helping with deliveries and packaging, answering telephone inquiries, handling money & using the till. You will need to be helpful, dress smart-casual unless a uniform is provided and observe a high standard of hygiene if handling food is involved.

    Ticket Sales

    Positions available in Theme Parks. Ticket sales staff sells rides and show tickets and offer information to the customers at various points around the park, including coach parties and group bookings. You should have good communication and interpersonal skills because customers will ask many questions including prices, opening times, directions and special requirements.

    Rides Operators

    Positions available in Theme Parks. Rider Operators assist customers onto the rides, take tickets, and operate the ride itself. You should have good communication and interpersonal skills and also be careful and focused. The establishment normally provides a uniform or a t-shirt and a Safety Manual will have to be read and understood in case of an emergency.

    Security Officers

    Positions available in Theme Parks. The position involve monitoring the park and making sure everything is always safe and under control for the customers. You pro-actively patrol the park, deal with any security related matters and will be trained to deal with any emergency incidents that might occur on the site. You will be trained in fire procedures for all venues/attractions.

    Don’t worry! If you do not have your Working Holiday Visa already, as soon as you book the program we will send you step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the complicated UK Working Holiday Visa application process.

    Note: Biometric Testing (what’s this?) is now required to obtain the UK Working Holiday Visa. Don’t Worry! We will give you lots of help with this.

    To be eligible for the program:

    • You must be a Canadian citizen and resident with a valid CANADIAN PASSPORT to be eligible for this program
    • You must be between the ages of 18 and 30 (and must not turn 31 before work permit is issued)
    • You must have a clear Police Record
    • Must have intermediate level of English
    • You will need a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme (UK Working Holiday Visa) – £190.00 approximately $300 CAD which is valid for 2 years (we will give you instructions of how to apply if you do not have one already).
    • You must have Medical Insurance for the entire duration that you are in the UK – it is mandatory (if you would like to purchase through us - we offer a great insurance policy at a low premium)

    To be eligible for the working holiday visa:

  • You must be able to prove with a bank statement that you have access to approx. $2,600 CAD (£1,600 GBP) in available funds so that you can "make-do" while you are travelling and working

    In order to work in the UK, you will need to apply for an NI number soon after you arrive. You will need to give your NI number to your employer's accounting department for tax purposes.

    If you don't have a NI number, you will be required to pay more than the normal tax amount. As well, without a NI number you will not be able to claim any of your overpaid taxes back or obtain a tax refund. Make sure you get it!

    A PAID JOB PLACEMENT
    • You will be placed into a hospitality or catering position. Your job placement depends on your previous work experience, attitude and work ethic. If you would like to be a cook or a chef, you must have previous kitchen work experience.

      (Note: You will be given one placement only)

    • Your placement will be monitored to make sure that you are safe and are being treated fairly
    • Either your host employers or a member from Easywork will assist you in obtaining your National Insurance (NI) number
    • Minimum 30-40 work hours per week
    • Host employers are located from the Highlands of Scotland in the north to the Isle of Guernsey in the south
    • Positions are offered in Hotels, Pubs, Restaurants, Inns, Holiday Villages, Holiday Parks and Theme Parks and companies can be anything from large international hotel chains to very small family-run businesses.

    This will include a detailed travel itinerary with the dates/flight times you should book and what is the most convenient airport for arrival

    To note - though we provide a detailed itinerary of how to reach a destination, you will still need to make your own arrangements on how you reach your employer from the airport. We do not provide anyone from Easywork to meet you at the airport, nor make it necessary for you to stop or fly into London to visit the office.
    Live-in accommodation (room & board) for the duration of your work period
    Depending on the company that you are placed with, your room & board may be free of charge, or at the very least – will be subsidized. For subsidized room & board, the amount charged will be small compared to the cost of living.
    Welcome Pack of Information
    Upon your arrival to the UK, you will receive a welcome pack of information within the first week of your placement that will inform you about working and living in the UK.

    One of London's most famous landmarks, the historic Tower houses the Crown Jewels, the prison cell of Sir Walter Raleigh, known as the Bloody Tower, and the Chapel of St. John and the Royal Armories.

    Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London

    Shakespeare's Globe is a unique international resource dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education. For literary buffs, this is an excellent opportunity to Shakespeare plays at a very reasonable price.

    Buckingham Palace in London

    This famous building is the London home and primary residence of the queen. Be sure to check out the changing of the guard which takes place daily at 11.30am and lasts approximately 45 minutes.

    Edinburgh Castle

    A fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. With over a million visitors a year, people flock to this attraction wanting to learn about the history of Scotland and look in awe at the beautiful scenery.
